Ha suonato con il <strong>Trio Los Panchos<\/strong> nei primi anni sessanta e registrato quattro dischi con loro, incluso uno con il cantante <strong>Eydie Gorm\u00e9<\/strong>.<br \/>\nSubito dopo inizia a registrare con la leggendaria etichetta Fania, entrando a far parte della famosissima orchestra <strong>Fania All-Stars<\/strong>. Fra la fine degli anni sessanta e i primi anni settanta \u00e8 protagonista dello show televisivo <strong>Yomo Toro Show<\/strong> trasmesso a New York sul canale 41.Lo show, nel quale vengono intervistati molti artisti latini, dura sette anni.<br \/>\nIl 1969 \u00e8 un anno particolarmente fecondo per Yomo Toro. Registra <strong>Tribute to Arsenio<\/strong> con la <strong>Larry Harlow Orchestra<\/strong> &#8211; un album di salsa che ne influenzer\u00e0 molti altri.Toro entra in contatto con altre leggende della salsa nel 1970 quando registra l&#8217;album natalizio <strong>Asalto Navide\u00f1o<\/strong> con <strong>Willie Colon<\/strong> e <strong>Hector Lavoe<\/strong>, combinando i nuovi suoni della salsa di New York con la musica tradizionale natalizia di Portorico. L&#8217;album \u00e8, e continua ad essere, uno dei dischi Fania pi\u00f9 venduti di tutti i tempi.<\/p>\n<p>La sua carriera continua per tutti gli anni settanta, ottanta e novanta con oltre 150 partecipazioni in altrettanti dischi, di cui 20 come solista con la Fania, Island, Rounder e Green Linnet Records.<br \/>\nRitorna a lavorare in televisione e al cinema, suona in diversi spot pubblicitari di importanti societ\u00e0 internazionali e lavora alle colonne sonore di numerosi film, fra i quali <strong>Crossover Dreams<\/strong> con <strong>Ruben Blades<\/strong> e il film di Woody Allen <strong>il dittatore del libero Stato di Bananas<\/strong>. Spazia in molti generi diversi, registrando con <strong>Harry Belafonte<\/strong>, <strong>Paul Simon<\/strong>, <strong>Linda Rondstadt<\/strong> e <strong>David Byrne<\/strong>.<br \/>\nNel 1994, Yomo inizia a suonare e registrare con i <strong>Latin Legends<\/strong> con <strong>Larry Harlow<\/strong> e <strong>Aldaberto Santiago<\/strong>. Fra gli ultimi lavori ricordiamo <em>Cortijo&#8217;s Tribe<\/em> CD con i Zon del Barrio\u2019s ed il singolo &#8220;<em>Homenaje al Sonero Mayor<\/em>&#8221; dove Yomo vola su assoli che gli consentono di allungare ed espandere il suo virtuosismo sulle stringhe.<\/p>\n<p>Biografia in inglese:<\/p>\n<p>Date of Birth:<br \/>\n26 July 1933, Gu\u00e1nica, Puerto Rico<\/p>\n<p>Birth Name:<br \/>\nV\u00edctor Guillermo Toro Vega Ramos Rodr\u00edguez Acosta<\/p>\n<p>Born in Ensenada, Puerto Rico as the son of an amateur guitarist,Yomo Toro grew to have a five-decade career as one of New York City&#8217;s best respected Latin musicians. Toro&#8217;s instrument of choice was the cuatro, a Puerto Rican 4-string guitar-like instrument descended from the Spanish Vilhuela.<\/p>\n<p>After first landing in New York in 1953 with his band, Los 4 Aces, Yomo embarked on a series of tours of the Caribbean, finally settling for good in the Tremont section of the Bronx in 1956. He played with Trio Los Panchos in the early &#8217;60s and recorded four albums with them, including one featuring Eydie Gorm\u00e9.Soon after that he began recording with the legendary Fania label, eventually joining their world-famous house band, the Fania All-Stars. During the late &#8217;60s and early &#8217;70s he hosted a <big>tv <\/big>show called the <strong>Yomo Toro Show <\/strong>on New York&#8217;s Channel 41.The show, which featured interviews and entertainment from a host of Latin personalities, was on for seven years. 1969 was an especially fruitful year for Toro. He recorded <strong>Tribute to Arsenio<\/strong> with the Larry Harlow Orchestra &#8212; an incredibly influential salsa album.Toro also got to hook up with some legends in 1970 when he recorded the classic Asalto Navide\u00f1o with Willie<br \/>\nColon and Hector Lavoe, combining the new sounds of NewYork salsa with traditional Puerto Rican Christmas music.The album was, and continues to be, one of Fania&#8217;s best-selling products of all time.<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8217;70s, &#8217;80s and &#8217;90s Toro&#8217;s career continued non-stop. He appeared on over 150 albums, recording over 20 solo albums for Fania, Island, Rounder and Green Linnet Records. He broke back into television and film, playing on commercials for several major international companies and working on the soundtracks for several films, including Crossover Dreams with Ruben Blades and Woody Allen&#8217;s Bananas. He broke out into many different genres, recording with Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, Linda Rondstadt and David Byrne. In 1994, Yomo began playing and recording in the <strong>Latin Legends<\/strong> with Larry Harlow and Aldaberto Santiago.
